Product Description

Making the Ultimate Protein Powder and Dispelling Myths about Whey Protein.

We've been in the business of making sports nutrition supplements for well over a decade. And when I say "making supplements" I mean just that. Reflex Nutrition is in the very enviable position of being the only, and longest established, ISO9001 registered manufacturer of sports nutrition products in Europe.

During this last decade we've focused very heavily on repeatable quality that can be measured both in the lab and in the real tangible results received through use of the products. Our wide range of products including famous products such as Instant Whey, Instant Mass and Progen are now joined by even more exciting products, including a new product that we believe is firmly the "ultimate protein powder".

At Reflex Nutrition we are continually approached by customers asking for a comparable product that would directly compete with a certain well known protein blend comprised of whey, micellar casein, egg and glutamine peptide. I'd be the first to admit that it's no easy task, and perhaps even controversial. Since we're not in the business of simply making a direct copy we were faced with the task of making a superior alternative here in our factory in the U.K.

But before I continue, I'd like to address a misconception when people claim "all whey protein derived from cheese manufacturing is denatured and does not contain any undenatured protein fractions originally found in native whey."

Technology has moved on dramatically in the dairy industry and it's fair to say that the vast majority of whey protein offered today is vastly superior in terms of composition and quality compared to say 10 years ago. For quite some time we've listed the various protein fractions found in our whey protein products on the label. The percentages of fractions are calculated by lab analysis. i.e the whey protein is tested for whey fractions after it is manufactured. They are undenatured. I'm sure you may have been told otherwise, especially if you have been taking supplements for a while. In fact I'm sure you've been told that the process of pasteurising whey protein will render it useless, as will the process of making cheese with pH changes. There is some truth in this, but only some; we know because we are the only ISO9001 registered supplement company in the world to operate an onsite pasteurisation facility for our Whey Refresh product. Our production manager has been pasteurising milk products longer than most supplement companies have been in business. We know the exact amount of time and temperature necessary to pasteurise whey protein successfully without denaturing the protein fractions. So when does whey protein become denatured?? When you pasteurise whey protein for longer periods of time than necessary the protein molecules will denature changing their structure and electrical charge – thus losing their original benefits. You can see this yourself at home by simply mixing some of your whey protein with water and heating it. Let it simmer for one minute, let it cool, and you'll be left with a gooey mess. Nearly all the whey fractions will have become truly undenatured.

Now let's imagine that scenario in a full scale dairy production line. It would be a total disaster! Hence dairies are very careful to use the legal minimum amount of heat to ensure that the whey does not ruin the heat exchangers in their pasteurisers.

When milk is pasteurised it is heated via a special heat exchanger to 72 degrees C and held at that temperature for 20 seconds. The milk then returns back into the heat exchanger where the heat is removed to cool the milk down to 25-30 degrees C. This process is very quick and has little effect on the protein fractions.

Gustavo Bounous

Gustavo Bounous is famous within the whey protein industry for his fantastic work with the effects of whey protein and immune function. Specifically he has worked extensively with the effects that whey protein has on glutathione levels in the human body – the master anti oxidant in our bodies.

He continues to do so and the whole industry has a great deal to thank him for.

Since the early 1990's Dr Gustavo Bounous has worked with a highly reputable company in Canada. They develop a specialist range of nutraceutical products that are very successfully sold throughout Canada and the USA – specifically to raise glutathione levels. Dr Bounous and the Canadian nutraceutical company formed a strong working relationship with Glanbia (pioneers in whey protein technology). In fact during the 1990's Reflex also formed a relationship with Glanbia and became the first company in Europe to utilise their new flagship product called CFM Whey Protein which today has become a household name within the industry. Our relationship with Glanbia differed to that of Dr Bounous's since our interest was the potential muscle building ability of whey protein and to a lesser degree the immune effects.

Today Reflex Nutrition still works with Glanbia and utilises their expertise in the field of whey protein and perhaps of more relevance their huge expertise with preserving whey protein fractions in their native undenatured state. At this point I will tell you that Glanbia uses sweet dairy whey derived from cheese manufacture for their whey protein products and have always done so. Reflex Nutrition use a number of different products from Glanbia ranging from bioactive whey proteins through to their latest and most exciting whey fraction called ActiNOS.

To conclude then, it is proven scientifically, that native undenatured whey fractions from cheese manufacture are indeed widely available. They're also one of the three main ingredients in our new ultimate protein powder.

Enter the birth our new flagship protein "Peptide Fusion".

Our small team of highly focused and professional individuals worked on this project which has been one of the most challenging tasks to date. To begin with we needed to address a number of key issues with current offerings in the market place. In order of importance, the top 5 were as follows:

  1. Quality and choice of raw materials. Key to the success of all Reflex products it would be of utmost importance to ensure that we used superior ingredients with every aspect of the product. This included using the finest undenatured proteins, proven and assayed in the lab. Custom manufactured flavourings, natural colourings and of course a complete absence of anything that was not necessary like added salt, artificial colouring etc.
  2. The product would be transparent in formulation. What does this mean? Well by this we mean that the ratios of the main 3 proteins would be listed as found in the product so that customers would know exactly what they are getting for their money. Often the customer does not know exactly what they are being sold with regard to protein blends; so called secret "proprietary blends" are sometimes nothing more than a tub of low quality whey with a scattering of low quality milk, egg and cheap soy. You can nearly always tell by looking at the ingredients list, if whey protein appears first then the majority of the protein in the tub will be whey protein because legally ingredients have to be listed in order of quantity. That's not want you want if you're buying a blend for time release properties; ideally you'd want to see micellar casein first on the ingredient list. Our new Peptide Fusion contains a blend of 33:33:33 Micellar Casein, Egg White Isolate and undenatured whey protein with all protein fractions present and proven by lab assay. The formulation is finished in a base of glutamine peptides, digestive enzymes and Lactospore pro-biotics.
  3. Taste is always subjective but we've gone to great lengths using customised nature identical flavourings to ensure that Peptide Fusion surpasses your expectations with regard to taste. Flavours such as Chocolate Mint, Strawberry, Vanilla and Banana will certainly keep you coming back for more. Importantly, and unlike other brands, you will not find any cheap fillers, added sugar, salt or artificial colours.
  4. Price. Its no use Reflex Nutrition making the ultimate protein powder and then charging an unrealistically high price. It's true that you can expect Peptide Fusion to be better value than any of our competition because of our unique manufacturing capabilities but it's still very difficult to keep prices lower than the competition given the high prices of the quality raw materials we use. Lets just say that you'll be pleasantly surprised.
  5. Guarantee. Many, many products claim everything and deliver virtually nothing to back it up. We absolutely guarantee what we sell. Take Peptide Fusion to any lab to test our protein ratios, test the protein claims, test for the whey fractions, and you'll find that it's all there. And if for any reason you're not happy we'll refund your purchase price immediately, in full, no questions.
  6. Peptide Fusion will be available in 2.1kg tubs. I'm also very pleased to inform you that all of the electricity Reflex Nutrition uses to manufacture Peptide Fusion comes from 100% renewable electricity.
